About The MartMolly Institute
Equity-informed care, grounded in practice
We exist to transform how care is delivered alongside individuals and communities by equipping practitioners, teams, and organisations with the knowledge, skills, and frameworks to work meaningfully with people experiencing inequity.
The MartMolly Method©
A framework grounded in real lives for everyday practice
The MartMolly Method© is an evidence-based, equity-informed framework developed to address the structural and relational barriers that shape people's access to care. It gives practitioners and organisations a shared language, a practical set of tools, and a values-based foundation for working with people experiencing disadvantage, trauma, and systemic inequity.
Unlike approaches that treat equity as an add-on, the MartMolly Method© helps embed equity at the centre of practice — from the first point of contact through to organisational policy and culture. It draws on decades of frontline practice, community partnership, and applied research.
The Method is designed to be practical, not theoretical. It meets practitioners where they are, building capacity incrementally and sustainably — so that equity-informed care becomes not a special effort, but an everyday way of working.

Our story
Developed by an Australian nurse
The MartMolly Institute was founded on a simple but urgent conviction: that the people most in need of care are too often the least well-served by the systems designed to help them.
The MartMolly Method founder, Adj. Associate Professor Sonia Martin (Churchill Fellow) brings more than 30 years of nursing experience, including nearly a decade working alongside people experiencing homelessness and barriers to care. Through her work alongside people experiencing homelessness, Sonia saw that a biomedical approach alone could not meet people's needs without understanding the social conditions shaping their lives. She began by listening closely, setting aside assumptions, and learning from people's experiences and the everyday barriers they faced. Over time, she identified themes that helped translate this learning into a practical approach she could teach other clinicians. The MartMolly Method© grew from this process, bringing together clinical knowledge and what people said mattered most.
Today, the MartMolly Institute works with practitioners, teams, and organisations across Australia — providing education, research, and implementation support that is grounded, practical, and built for the realities of frontline care, team culture and organisational policy.
What we stand for
Our values
Curiosity
We approach every challenge with an open mind and a genuine desire to understand — asking focused questions, listening deeply, and remaining open to what the evidence and community tell us.
Justice
We are committed to fairness and the active dismantling of the structural conditions that create and sustain inequity.
Equity
We believe equitable outcomes require more than equal treatment — they require an active commitment to addressing the conditions that create disadvantage and ensuring everyone can access the care they need.
